Warehouse Solutions

For over 33 years, SPAN has been the leading solution provider for storage solutions, ranging from selective to mobile, flow racks to garments on hangers, mobile shelving to carton live storage. Our storage offering also includes Storeganizer, a key space-saving solution for smaller items, as well as a wide range of plastic bins and totes. SPAN also offers loading bay solutions to maximize the efficiency of loading and unloading, and a long list of warehouse accessories and safety equipment.

Palletized Racking Systems

We design and install all types of palletized storage systems. Our experts have decades of experience ensuring that the right type and the right size of storage system is set up for each case.

Selective Racking is the basic, most economic and most popular type of racking system. The system consists of back-to-back frames connected by horizontal beam and separated by access aisles of varying width, dependent on the type of material handling equipment used, ensuring 100% pallet selectivity.

In a Very Narrow Aisle (VNA) environment, pallet racks are placed closer together when compared to conventional pallet racking systems. With VNA racking, the rotation and access to stock is uncompromised, while the number of products stored in the warehouse is maximized. The system offers 100% selectivity where pallets can be accessed using special lift trucks equipped with a rotating fork turret.

The Mobile Racking system consists of standard racking frames and beams mounted onto mobile steel bases which are electro-mechanically driven along tracks embedded into floor slabs. It eliminates the need for multiple working aisles and allows access to any storage location using a single working aisle; therefore, optimizing floor area utilization and maximizing storage capacity. They are suited for high-cost storage environment.

Double Deep Racking enhances space utilization and considerably increases storage capacity when compared to Selective Racking. The system’s configuration is a derivative of the conventional Selective Racking, where back-to- back frames allow for the accommodation of two pallets in each location (one at the front and one at the rear) as opposed to one in the case of Selective Racking. As a result, storage density per aisle is doubled, however pallet selectivity is reduced.

Drive-In/Drive-Through utilizes uprights in conjunction with pallet rails of various depths that are defined by product characteristics and operational requirements. The racking system is ideal for high density storage of products featuring large volumes, high throughput, and a limited number of Stock Keeping Units (SKUs), for example a prime candidate is the beverage industry.

Shuttle Racking systems combine the maximization of storage capacity, selectivity, and throughput speed by automating the pallet storage and retrieval process. The racking structure and storage configuration is similar to the Drive-In system with the added benefit of accommodating a different Stock Keeping Unit at each pick face. They are typically utilized in environments that require high density storage with enhanced selectivity, such as beverage production and distribution and temperature-controlled facilities.

The basic elements of a Push Back Racking system are inclined rails and a set of nested trolleys that rest on the beams. It is ideal for storing medium turnover products with two or more pallets per SKU. The storage system enables easy access and is also useful for temporary storage such as staging areas. It offers the benefits of high-density storage combined with a LIFO operating principle (pallets are stored and retrieved from the same side).

The Flow Racking system offers the benefits of high-density storage where pallets are placed on inclined gravity roller beds at one end of the storage lane and are retrieved from the other end. The system is particularly suited for the food and beverage industry, where expiry dates dictate the requirement for FIFO movement of goods.
